About the Company
Product Connection was founded as a source of product development expertise for
new and maturing start-up companies dealing with their first, and most critical, new
product development projects. Jim Vorhaus is the company's founder and President.
About Jim Vorhaus
Jim has over twenty years of experience managing engineering teams developing
products in a wide variety of markets, including wireless, military, fiber optic
communications, and advanced semiconductors. He has worked in companies
ranging in size from start-ups to Fortune 500. He has built engineering teams from
scratch and managed engineering organizations of over 150 people.
Among the products Jim has successfully taken through development and into
production are the industry's first Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMIC)
produced in volume, state-of-the-art microwave power modules for radar
applications, millimeterwave transceivers for VSAT and point-to-point radio
applications, and a tunable DWDM laser module. Some of these projects extended
for more than 24 months from conception to manufacturing release and involved
hundreds of man-months of effort.
Jim has also been responsible for implementing formal New Product Development
Processes in several different organizations. Some of these processes ultimately
passed ISO-9001 audits and certification.
In addition to his engineering management experience, Jim has general
management expertise at the product line and division level. This experience
includes having full P&L responsibility for a $40M+ division of a $300M company.
Jim holds a BS degree in engineering physics from Lehigh University and MS and
PhD degrees in solid-state physics from the University of Illinois. He has also
completed the Executive Management Program at the Amos Tuck School of
Business Administration at Dartmouth College
